Doctors have very good clinical acumen gathered over the years of practice as well as through history taking and physical examination while utilising laboratory services. For some cases surgery is inevitable.
I have always wanted to learn how to perform obstetrics ultrasound. When I came to learn of the opportunity, I took it.
I wanted to acquire the clinical skills and expand my knowledge base. The training was also convenient for me in terms of my working schedule. I am glad to have been part of a training group of professionals whom I learnt a lot from.
I decided to participate in this training when I realised that a good understanding of ultrasound imaging helped in making crucial clinical decisions at my work place.
Numerous ultrasound requests for diagnosing and prognosticating different conditions stamped the importance of bedside ultrasound. Some of my consultants could perform bedside ultrasounds without waiting for radiology to avail themselves thereby markedly reducing turnaround time of the same. Therefore, IÂ wanted to get better at my general assessment of the patient. I also saw it as an extension to normal systemic examinations.
I was searching for answers. I lost someone very close to me so suddenly and I was eager to find out the cause and probably prevent any other person from losing their loved ones in such a way. And that is how I found myself here and I have never regretted practicing medicine.
I must say my greatest motivation to practice medicine was driven by love for medicine and the ability to help people especially with their medical needs.
I chose the training because it was very affordable as compared to other institutions, the trainers were qualified and the training design was flexible especially to those of us who are working. Also as an emergency and critical care clinical officer, I needed to polish my skills in POCUS.
I always wanted to become a doctor since childhood. I was a member of the health club in high school and had a desire to interact with and ultimately help people with health needs. I had mentors
who inspired me to join medicine. I must say studying biology and chemistry which were core subjects for a person who wanted to study medicine in undergraduate, were among my best subjects.
My greatest motivation was from my love for Science is on another level. Additionally, my parents enthusiasm towards medicine pushed me even more. Not to sound like my parents forced me into medicine, but just to know that they totally supported me.
